The Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society hosts a number of events throughout the year. Here you'll find our fundraising events, which help keep the shelter operational; as well as community outreach events and news. Our tight knit and generous SYV community allows us to continually provide the services that we do, and through this page we strive to tighten the weave of our community by keeping everyone informed and engaged. Please check back often for events and information.

Attention: Due to the emergence and unpredictability of COVID-19, we have made the decision to close our veterinary clinic for the time being. We are maintaining pet fosters and adoptions through an appointment only system. This allows us to limit foot traffic throughout our building and maintain social distancing guidelines. While our shelter is not currently open to casual public visits, we remain at your service for surrender and adoption needs. We look forward to resuming our clinic services such as low cost spays/neuters and vaccines. Our staff is on location daily caring for the remaining animals as well as directing animal intake and counseling adoptions. We are committed to continuing to support our community in every way possible, just as you have all supported our work. Please take this time to make sure that your companion animals will have the care they need should you become hospitalized or unable to care for them. There are a myriad of resources that encourage people who are ill to not only socially distance from other people, but also their pets. This does not mean, however, that you must relinquish or abandon your pet to protect your health. You can minimize the impact of this disease to others in your household by following these simple steps:
- If you’re infected, limit contact with animals.
- If someone in your house is infected, keep your animals away from other animals and people.
- Social distancing includes your pets. Keep your pets away from other people and animals, just like you should be doing with yourself.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
FYI: According to the World Health Organization, there is no evidence that companion animals have been infected or could spread Covid-19. 🙏
